How do current account deals work?

With a current account mortgage all of your individual financial accounts (your mortgage, savings, loans and current account) are combined. At the end of every month any money left on the balance goes towards paying off the loan. Interest is only charged on the outstanding amount, reducing your interest payments overall. With most lenders, there is a required minimum repayment amount each month.

Is a current account mortgage deal right for you?

Not everyone is suited to a current account mortgage deal. You will get the most benefit from the deal if you can regularly leave more than the agreed amount in your account at the end of every month. It’s worth considering the following points before making a decision:

 Gives you greater control of your repayments

 The lender will usually require that you pay your monthly salary directly into the CAM

 The increased risk to the lender means that rates are generally higher than standard offers

 This rate type requires a measure of financial self-discipline
