How does this type of deal work?

However, discounted mortgage offer a reduction in your lender’s standard variable rate (SVR) for a short term. For example, your rate might be set at around 0.5% less than the SVR for the first 3 years of your deal.

If interest rate fall, your payments will go down - but if they rise you need to make sure you can cover any extra cost. If you prefer to know exactly how much is coming out of you account each month then you may be better suited to a fixed mortgage.
