Things to Do

From hiking to golfing, kayaking and surfing, Aberdeen is perfectly suited for those who love the outdoors. Best of all, the city is only a stone’s throw away from some of the most stunning natural scenery in Scotland.

Recognised for its flourishing cultural scene, Aberdeen plays host to a year-round calendar of festivals and events, including dance, music, and theatre productions.

Family-friendly activities are also plentiful in the Granite City; sunny days are best spent at the beach or one of the city’s lovely parks, while the Maritime Museum offers an exciting day out for children of all ages.

Transport

Rail, road, and air transport links are excellent throughout Aberdeen. The A90 provides easy access to Scotland’s capital, the north, and the south, while the A96 links Aberdeen with Inverness.

The city is also ideal for commuters; Aberdeen boasts convenient rail connections with links to central London, Edinburgh, and nearby towns and villages.

Travel around the UK and Europe is also easy from Aberdeen; the city’s airport offers connections with more than 40 national and international destinations.

Economy

The cornerstone of Aberdeen’s economy is the oil and gas sector, followed by industries such as renewable energy, tourism and engineering.

Whilst recovery has been gradual, the future of Aberdeen’s economy certainly looks positive: several investment deals are currently underway to drive growth in a range of burgeoning sectors, including food and drink, agriculture, science, software development, and medicine.

Schools

Aberdeen boasts two universities: Robert Gordon University and the University of Aberdeen, a prestigious school renowned for its excellent quality teaching and research.

Aberdeen Grammar School and Cults Academy are among some of the most highly-rated schools in the city – the latter of which has been named one of the top 10 state secondary schools in Scotland.

Additionally, there are a number of first-rate primary schools in Aberdeen.
