Newcastle

Jesmond

One of the most sought-after suburbs of Newcastle, Jesmond boasts leafy streets and terraced period houses. There are three conservation areas within Jesmond: Brandling Village, South Jesmond and Jesmond Dene, but the whole area is delightful, with two pedestrian and cycle paths running from the area to central Newcastle, and some of the best schools in Newcastle. It’s a great choice for families and young professionals. As well as large family homes, there are also several flats in the area, making it popular with students and investors.
 

Tynemouth

Just under 10 miles east of Newcastle, Tynemouth is a popular seaside town and was named the Best Place to Live in the North in 2019 by The Times. It’s the perfect choice for families, with the beach right on your front door, yet it’s conveniently located on the metro line, making it easy to get into Newcastle in roughly half an hour. There’s a wide range of properties to choose from, including beautiful Georgian mansions, modern apartment buildings and everything in between.
 

Whitley Bay

In 2019, American travel company Condé Nast Traveller named Whitley Bay as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the UK, thanks to the plethora of independent businesses that are thriving in the town. With such fantastic amenities, there’s no need to live in the heart of the city centre, and Whitley Bay, roughly 10 miles from Newcastle, offers everything you love about city living, along with the fresh air and open space of living on the coast. There’s a metro station in town which takes you directly into Newcastle city centre in 25 minutes.
 

Sandyford

Just a ten-minute walk from Newcastle University, Sandyford is a popular area for students – but it’s not just students that live here. The area has a thriving, tight-knit community, and a range of different properties available – choose from large Victorian terraced houses or modern apartment developments. It’s a great place to live, and a fantastic choice for those who want to be close to the city centre whilst also enjoying more living space in a greener area.
 

Fenham

To the west of the city centre, Fenham is a bustling area with a mix of cultures. It’s popular with families thanks to the choice of large, affordable housing, as well as the selection of high-performing schools in the area.
 

Gateshead

 

Low Fell

A popular suburb of Gateshead, Low Fell is a semi-rural area and former village that has all the benefits of a close community, whilst also being just 20 minutes by car from Newcastle city centre. With a lot of parks in the area as well as good schools, it’s sought-after among families. There’s a real selection of independently owned shops, cafes and restaurants along the main Durham Road, as well as a choice of housing, from Victorian villas to contemporary flats.
 

Saltwell Park

Saltwell Park is a 55-acre park that was opened in 1867. One of the main benefits of buying a house in this area is the huge park right on your doorstep! There’s a wide variety of houses to choose from, with plenty of stylish new builds as well as period properties in the area.
 

Lobley Hill

This quiet residential area to the southwest of Gateshead is popular with families. Here you’ll find an array of affordable housing including spacious detached and semi-detached homes. It’s a good choice for commuters, offering easy access to the A1 Western Bypass and the Metro Centre.
 

Ryton

Sitting 5.8 miles to the west of Newcastle, Ryton is a pretty village surrounded by greenery including the Ryton Willows Local Nature Reserve which offers 43 hectares of grassland, ponds and woodland. Ryton is a good choice for those who like the idea of country life whilst also being within easy commuting distance of both Gateshead and Newcastle.
