The Help to Buy Scheme has now closed to new applications. Builders may be offering shared equity and other promotions, but these are not backed by the Government, as Help to Buy was.

For first-time buyers, saving enough money for a deposit can be a huge hurdle to overcome before you can buy your first home.

The government has recognised this and introduced the Help to Buy scheme, which makes it easier to get together enough money for a deposit. It means that you can buy a home with as little as a 5% deposit, and the mortgage repayments will be lower than they would be with a standard mortgage arrangement as the loan is interest-free for the first five years.

The scheme is open to both first and second-time buyers. There are lots of Help to Buy houses available across Sunderland, so you’re bound to find your dream home – read on to check out what properties are available in the city.
