The Help to Buy Scheme has now closed to new applications. Builders may be offering shared equity and other promotions, but these are not backed by the Government, as Help to Buy was.

For first time buyers, the biggest hurdle to overcome when buying a house is often the large deposit that’s needed. That’s why the government has introduced the Help to Buy scheme. It’s designed to help more people get on the property ladder and achieve their dream of homeownership.

The Help to Buy scheme allows you to take out an equity loan from the government of 15% of the property value. That means you need to save a deposit of just 5% and you’ll only need an 80% mortgage in total.

There is a wide range of Help to Buy properties in both Leeds and Bradford. We’ve outlined everything you need to know about each area below, to help you make your decision about where to buy your new home.

Central

Buying a property in the heart of either city means that you’re right in the centre of all the action. These properties are perfect for first-time buyers.

North East

To the northeast of both cities, you’ll find plenty of charming towns and villages in the miles between Leeds and York, as well as developments on the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Perfect for families, these homes offer great value for money.

North West

If you’re looking for something more rural, head to the north-west, to the towns and villages near the Yorkshire Dales – ideal for those looking for a quieter pace of life whilst still being within commuting distance of the city.

South East

You’ll find plenty of charming market towns and villages in the region to the south-east of both Bradford and Leeds. Again, this area is perfect for those looking for an affordable option within commuting distance to the city centre.

South West

Those wanting to be close to the Peak District should consider buying a property to the south-west of either Leeds or Bradford. Have the best of both worlds – close to some of the best nature in northern England whilst also being within striking distance of two of its most vibrant cities.
