The Help to Buy Scheme has now closed to new applications. Builders may be offering shared equity and other promotions, but these are not backed by the Government, as Help to Buy was.

Many people dream of buying a home, but find the large deposit needed prohibitive. It can make getting on the property ladder seem like an impossible task.

Luckily, the government has made it easier to take the first steps towards home ownership with the Help to Buy scheme. The scheme means you can buy a house with as little as a 5% deposit, as you’ll be able to take out an equity loan of up to 15% of the property value. As the loan is interest-free for the first five years, you’ll also have lower mortgage repayments than you’d have with a standard mortgage arrangement.

Help to Buy is available for first- and second-time buyers who do not already own a property, either inside or outside of the UK. With the Help to Buy scheme, you can purchase a new-build home up to the value of £600,000, as long as you plan to live in it and it’s not going to be used a buy-to-let property.

If you’re looking for Help to Buy in Southampton or Portsmouth, you’re in luck. No matter where you’re looking to purchase a property, you’re sure to find the perfect home for you with the Help to Buy scheme.
